1995 London

This was a fun shoot we did with John Stoddart at the Halcyon Hotel in Holland Park. Like the Electric Banana don't look for it, it's not there anymore. Paul Smith lavished clothes on Bob and Pete and room service was called more than once. Halcyon days indeed!

1997 Malmo, Sweden

These pictures were taken for the Japanese album Continental. We were approached by a lovely Japanese bloke called Shoichi Kajino who offered to put out an album of tracks we'd recorded around 95 and 96 - the wilderness years! He came over to Malmo to play some Jenga with us.

1991 London

Our first shoot as a trio with the great Chris Clunn. This was on Highbury Fields. No idea who Miguel was, but it's a good excuse to mention Gordon Lightfoot's terrific song of the same name - it's on the 'Summer Side Of Life' album which got a lot of tour bus plays.

1993 Hysteric Glamour

We did this shoot with the lovely Jamie Fry and were clearly having a lot of fun. I think it was for a magazine called TV Hits? I loved the cartoon strip suit I'm wearing, it was given to me during one of our early Japanese tours by Nobu from Hysteric Glamour-official. I wish I still had it but gave it away to be auctioned for charity. I wonder who's wearing it now?

December 1993 Birmingham Institute

Bob had been given an Oasis demo cassette which we really liked, so we asked them to support us on a short run of Christmas shows in 93. They were already a fully functioning rock unit, a tough band to follow but easy to get on with, and we sensed they were on the way up. Johnny Cigarettes didn't quite get Oasis, or my shirt (an impulse purchase, which to be fair I'd had my doubts about). The shirt never saw the light of day again, but we all know what happened to Oasis.

June 1992 Rockin On

There I am with a fringe. This wasn't long after I joined the band and I think it is from feature in a Japanese magazine Rockin'on around the time of our first tour there. We still play in Japan every now and again and it's a fun place visit.

March 1994 Dublin

I really remember this gig, Primal Scream were in Dublin and crashed our dressing room. When we came off stage they'd drunk our rider but at least they had the courtesy to stick around and party whilst more supplies were ordered.

2017 Home Counties

Saint Etienne's music always has a firm sense of time and place, somewhere around London, sometime between 1963 and yesterday. So it's no surprise that the trio have finally written a whole album about the towns they grew up in. If the concept might seem a bit Brexit, the execution is flawless and winningly witty.

Sarah and Debsey lost in Tokyo

This was a shot in Madrid during a press trip for Good Humor. That's a watermelon I'm pulling out of the oven - as you do. I think we'd all had a big night and Pete had been led astray by Jorge the flashing blade from our record label.

Pale Movie video shoot - Nerja, Spain

This was taken by our lovely friend Jamie Fry while we were making the video for Pale Movie in Nerja, the balcony of Europe. It was always great fun making promo's with Jamie, we'd start out with a rough idea and make the rest up as we went along. We borrowed the scooters from a gang of teens, we had to learn to ride them without crashing which was both hilarious and terrifying in equal measure!

1990 Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs

This was round the back of Mornington Crescent, late 1990. Joe Dilworth took the photo, just before we did our first photo session with him as a trio. That was my Grandad's old sheepskin coat, I wish I still had it.

Bob Stanley

An early shot outside the Hotel Splendide in Mornington Crescent, apparently there never was a hotel there but the building was dressed for a film and left like that for a long time. I was still dressed in baggy period attire in this photo which thankfully didn't last so long.

76 In The Shade Bob Stanley's new collection for Ace Records

The Summer of 1976 has remained a benchmark for long, hot summers – there may have been scorchers since, but none have seemed quite as relentless. Too hot to move, the country melted into a collective puddle. This album evokes the feel of that summer, the sweet heat and almost narcotic lethargy, the haze above melting tarmac.

Available on CD and LP from our favourite shops Jumbo Records in Leeds, Monorail Music in Glasgow, Spillers Records in Cardiff and Rough Trade
