Beano's

The Beano exhibition that has just opened at Somerset House has a couple of Saint Etienne related installations. One is a film, a spoof on the Look At Life films called Welcome To Beanotown - Sarah reads the text over music by Bob and Gus Bousfield. The other is a mock up of Beano's Records, the legendary Croydon shop, complete with a jukebox selection put together by Bob. The whole thing has been curated by artist Andy Holden and it is thoroughly excellent.

BEANO: THE ART OF BREAKING THE RULES exhibition is on now until 6 March 2022.

All the details are at https://www.somersethouse.org.uk

Foxbase Rarities

Foxbase Rarities is a 5 track CD of rare recordings from the Foxbase Alpha era that we're offering as a free extra to everyone who buys the green vinyl 30th anniversary edition of the LP from our online shop at: https://saintetienne.ochre.store (link in bio). The offer only lasts until midnight this Sunday 31st October, but we've decided to include the CD with all orders of our Foxbase Alpha Box set placed by the same deadline. The CD includes:

1. Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Flowered Up remix
2. Nothing Can Stop Us - Masters At Work remix
3. Spring - instrumental - on CD for the first time
4. Only Love Can Break Your Heat - Kenlou B-boy remix
5. 3D Tiger - on CD for the first time

Due to current manufacturing lead times we're very sorry to say that these won't ship until mid-January but 'Foxbase Rarities' is exclusive to our shop and available only for the next four days. We thought it would be fun to offer a free extra for early buyers, but will press this one to order and it won't be available after 1st November.

Lots of love
Bob, Pete and Sarah xxx

Jane Weaver

We're delighted to announce that Jane Weaver will be joining us as our special guest on tour this November. Jane will play on all shows except Saltaire and Hove. Those two and Glasgow are already sold out and anyone interested in buying tickets for London, Bristol, Liverpool and Birmingham should head to the link in the bio now to avoid disappointment.

We're really looking forward to playing live again and will include two or three songs from the new record plus a selection of hits, misses and a two or three songs we haven't played for a while. We'll also be performing our Christmasy, Christmas single.

Unfortunately our show in the North East (Sunderland) has had to be postponed as the venue opening has been delayed. We will be back to honour the date and hopefully a couple more around the UK in the new year. Which venue would you like to see us play?

We're so pleased Jane will be joining us for these shows and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Lots of love,

Bob, Pete and Sarah xxx

PS. if you haven't listened to Jane's new album 'Flock' we strongly recommend you do!

Fox Base Alpha is 30!!

Blimey, our eldest just turned 30, how did that happen?!

It seems like only yesterday that we launched Fox Base Alpha onto an unsuspecting world on October 14th 1991.

We decided at the start of this year that we should do something to celebrate this landmark birthday but as we went big with our Fox Base Alpha Box Set 5 years ago we thought a gentler more relaxed celebration would be in order. The vinyl edition of Foxbase has been out of stock since the start of the pandemic so we thought it was time to bring it back, but in a special Green Vinyl 30th Anniversary limited edition. Unforeseen manufacturing delays - caused by the pandemic and something beginning with B - mean that we won't have finished copies until December. But it is available to pre-order in out new shop at < ahref="https://saintetienne.ochre.store" target="self">https://saintetienne.ochre.store from this coming Tuesday 19th October.

And as a special bonus - for all those who pre-order before the end of October we'll include free a CD of 5 rare recordings from the Fox Base Alpha era as follows:

Fox Base Rarities

1. Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Flowered Up remix
2. Nothing Can Stop Us - Masters At Work remix
3. Spring - instrumental - on CD for the first time
4. Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Kenlou B-boy remix
5. The Official Saint Etienne World Cup Theme - on CD for the first time

Lots of love

Happy birthday Finisterre

Our album Finisterre was released exactly 19 years ago. Who knows where the time goes?

Pete Wiggs: "We recorded the album before making the 'Finisterre' film with Paul Kelly, Kieran Evans and Kevin Pearce but whenever I hear the songs now, images from the film come flooding into my mind. It's definitely a bittersweet album, written when things had gone sour after the turn of the new millennium, lifted by some great early work from Xenomania and a turn from Wildflower."

Bob Stanley: "The spoken verses on Finisterre the song were by Sarah Churchill who I knew from Reckless Records in Islington. I loved her delivery. I'd heard it on her alternative chartbuster 'Lady Di Why Did You Have To Die?' (can't remember the band’s name). It was great. Sung to the tune of 'Gloria' by Laura Brannigan."

Sarah Cracknell: "The Way We Live Now is definitely my favourite song on the album and scene in the film. It actually gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It's sinister, melancholy and uplifting all in one song, quite an achievement I think!"

What's your favourite song from Finisterre and why?

Gary Crowley

GC has championed Saint Etienne since the early 1990s and we're eternally grateful for his support. This was a memorable TV appearance of 'Marble Lions' on his show 'The Beat' from way back in 1994.

We're honoured that for tonight's Megamix on his Radio London show between 6-8pm, Gary has selected Saint Etienne and will be taking requests for your favourite Etienne tracks.

GC: "They're back with a new album so I thought for Saturday night's Megamix we should celebrate the mighty Saint Etienne. We'd love to hear your favourites from the group and any memories that they may ignite for you?"

Please tune in and message Gary via his Instagram @garycrowleyonair or facebook @garycrowley.

We'll be tuning in and look forward to hearing your choices and stories.

Tune in at:
